Fashion Show last October

In October of 2010, some of the Illinois International family modeled at a fashion show for the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce. The ladies were the highlight and we received many comments on how professional they were, but were more engaging and warm with the audience than most models of fashion shows. We have a lot of beautiful women who enter the Illinois International Pageants. I'm glad we have more chances in the year to reach out and include them in other events. Our models were Mrs. IL 2010, Jennifer Naida; Mrs. IL 2011, Nicole Khayat; 1st Runner Up to Mrs. IL 2011, Jennifer Cruz; and 1st Runner Up to Miss IL 2011, Lindsey Hess. Lindsey travelled by train from the west central part of the state to lend a hand. THANK YOU SO MUCH, LINDSEY!
Many thanks go out to Jason Pawlowski for the pictures and continued friendship to the pageant. Also, we were thrilled that our pageant emcee, Keith DeBolt was on hand to host the show. He did his usual stellar job and made sure the audience had a fabulous time.
On November 20, 2010, the Illinois International Queen Team, along with their director, attended the Chicago Toy and Game Expo at Navy Pier. The fair was open to the public featured the latest in children’s board games to flying helicopters.
Nicole, Ashley and Brandy spent the day circulating the show floor and encouraged exhibitors and attendees to donate toys to Big Brothers/Big Sisters mentoring organization. They also staffed the donation booth. Somehow, the ladies managed to find time for some toys and games themselves. They even insisted on getting a picture on a 15 foot tall rocking horse!
The Young Inventors Challenge was the highlight of the day. Kids from all over the country flew in to compete for the chance to have a game they created become one of Hasbro’s newest games and win a trip to New York. The display of creativity, hard work and enthusiasm from the participants was amazing. Our ladies encouraged attendees to visit the “play area,” try the games and vote for their favorite one.
Several celebrities were on hand to support and participate in event, including Daryl Hannah (Blade Runner, Splash and Wall Street) who actually was there as a vendor. The mayor of Chicago even stopped by to greet the participants and visit with the queens! The highlight of the day was having John Ratzenberger (of Cheers and Pixar voice over fame), assisted by Brandy, present the awards to the winners on stage. These young talented kids were so excited to have their work recognized. It was great fun for everyone!
Many thanks to Nicole and Ashley Newman (Miss Illinois International 2010) who attended on Sunday to continue supporting show!
